Hello Second Grade Parents!
What a busy time of year! Second grade students have been learning a LOT in school over the last month!
In the area of math, students have been creating patterns.† They are learning about repeating patterns, growing patterns and number patterns. Soon after the holiday, students will begin creating different kinds of graphs, like pictographs, bar graphs and line graphs.† o many exciting things to learn in math! Please continue working on addition and subtraction at home with your child every day.† t is imperative that your child enter third grade knowing his/her addition and subtraction facts.
In the area of reading, your child has been learning many reading strategies, like connecting, picturing and predicting. Children are participating in daily reading groups, in addition to weekly Reading Buddies. Please encourage your child to read daily at home, as well. Reading plays a critical role in a second graders development. Not only should your child be able to read the words on a page, but more importantly, he/she should understand what is being read. Without that comprehension piece, your child's reading is in vain. Please support your child by reading with him/her each day, and by making reading a fun and enjoyable activity.
We wish you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season. Happy New Year!
