Plainville Board of Education Receives Leadership Award

The Plainville Board of Education was presented with the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) Level Two Leadership Award during the annual CABE/ CAPSS (Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents) Convention held in November. This is the eighth consecutive year the Plainville Board of Education has received this award.

Career Day at PHS!

Plainville High School recently hosted the 5th annual Career Day program for students. More than 40 speakers participated in the program including representatives from a variety of career fields such as engineering, law enforcement, culinary, medical and more. Many of the speakers were also alumni of Plainville Community Schools. The program was coordinated by Assistant Superintendent of Schools Steven LePage and the high school's Student Success Planning Committee.


Veterans Day In Plainville Community Schools

Students and staff across the school district honored veterans on Veterans Day, November 11th. A variety of programs were held throughout the day in each school.


PHS College Fair!

More than 100 colleges, universities, technical schools and branches of the military were in attendance at the Plainville High School College Fair held on October 28th!


Superintendent's Award Presentation

Twelve Plainville students received the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents' (CAPSS) Superintendent / Student Recognition Award and Certificate of Excellence at the 29th annual Superintendent's Award Presentation held on October 28th during a luncheon at J. Timothy's Restaurant.


Pumpkin Time!

Students in the PHS Culinary Arts program recently carved and prepped pumpkins for the Plainville Pumpkin Festival. The PHS pumpkins will be donated to children attending the Pumpkin Festival event!


PHS Homecoming Festivities!

Plainville High School celebrated Homecoming during the first weekend in October with several activities including Float Parade featuring the following float themes: Halloween—Freshmen, Wizard of Oz—Sophomores, Pirates of the Caribbean—Juniors (winners of the float contest), and Disney Princesses—Seniors, varsity football game against Northwest Catholic, and the Homecoming Dance. The Homecoming Court featured fourth runners-up: Kaitlyn Butler and Will Anderson, third runners-up: Melissa Lux and Jonathan Olson, second runners-up: Jessica Masco and Cory Carlone, first runners-up: Erin Brochu and Dwight Burns, and Homecoming Queen and King: Kiya Broughton and Grant Sarra.


Grant Funds "Blue Bots" to Extend Learning

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Maureen Brummett and Elementary Math Resource Teacher Alicia Atterrato accepted a grant from Cristin Buckley of the Ben Was Here Foundation at the September 12th Board of Education meeting. Atterrato received the grant to obtain "Blue Bots" - which will be introduced to students and teachers in all three Plainville elementary schools to use as a small group math center and in other coding and STEM related learning and activities.


Welcome Back Mentors!

Plainville Community Schools recently welcomed volunteer mentors back for the 2016-17 school year. The group gathered for breakfast and training, hosted by Volunteer Coordinator, Sue Bradley.


First Day of School!

Administrators, faculty and staff welcomed students back to school on September 1st!


Convocation 2016!

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Maureen Brummett welcomed faculty and staff back for the 2016-17 school year at the annual Convocation program held on August 29th. The program featured an overview of the district's focus by Dr. Brummett, introduction of the current Teacher of the Year, Maria Colangelo, recognition of faculty and staff for years of service, introduction of new faculty and administration, and a musical finale performed by the district's music teachers!


Strategic Planning Kick Off!

On August 24th the district's Strategic Planning Committee Kick Off meeting was held at Plainville High School, led by Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maureen Brummett. School district stakeholders came together to begin the process of updating the school district's strategic plan.

Plainville Community Schools Announces Teacher of the Year

Plainville Community Schools has named Plainville High School Foreign Language teacher Maria Fazio Colangelo as the 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year. Colangelo has been an educator for 37 years, having served 25 years at Plainville High School. She was honored at the June 14th Plainville Board of Education meeting.

Plainville Coalition Sponsors Underage Drinking Prevention Campaign

The Plainville Coalition for Positive Youth Development is joining cities and towns around the country by sponsoring a campaign to prevent underage drinking. This effort highlights the fact that it is illegal to allow consumption of alcohol by anyone under age 21, even in private homes. As part of the campaign the Coalition will be displaying lawn signs and other materials around town.

The School Messenger automated messaging system is utilized to directly contact parents who have selected this option, in the event of weather-related closings or delays. In addition, area radio and television stations will broadcast appropriate announcements. These announcements will also be accessible on the Internet at Connecticut Weather Center’s
